Delay in Customs clearance
on import shipments via Shanghai in 2007

Shanghai Customs has recently installed a new Computer Software System on August 1st 2007 to process import clearance on shipments via Shanghai; however, this System is creating a lot of problems for both sea and air shipments importing into China via Shanghai resulting to long delay in clearance and quarantine inspection.

Even though Import Permits and proper import documents are ready and available, it will still take at least 6 to 8 working days to clear a sea shipment or an air shipment through Customs in Shanghai. Furthermore, Shanghai Customs will only clear a maximum of 10 air shipments per working day.

Please note that with this delay, most of the shipments importing into China via Shanghai will incur demurrage charges. We estimated that such unfortunate situation will continue for a few months; however, as you may also understand that such is totally beyond our control.

AEMovers in Shanghai will continue expediting its utmost to assist your clients on the import clearance of their shipments and making immediate delivery to your clients once it is cleared and released by Shanghai Customs. We will also notify you as soon as possible when this situation has been improved.

Thank you for your attention.
